<- part two--
The fairy tale is readied...
Sunday, the 13th
The girls and I got up and around and left the house right on time so that they could pick up some food and last minute items at Safeway on their way. I wanted Cookie Crunch, partially because my friend Michelle had it to snack on before her wedding. I was trying my hardest to incorporate as much of my various friends into my day since so many weren't able to be there. So we got that and some grapes and Chex for Rina and headed out to Columbia to get the flowers. We loaded up the car very carefully, with flowers balanced between legs and trays of boutonnieres setting nicely between things. Luckily, we still were using Amy's van, and this made this job SO much easier. On our way to the church, I blew up the 10 balloons we had bought to mark the harder turns to get to the church. We took those and tons of curly ribbon and the signs I had made and Megan climbed over a huge ditch while I tried to help from the side (she didn't think that I should be breaking my leg that morning before getting married :-) ) We tried so hard to get that sign up, but I don't know how far into the day it held up! The balloons weren't gonna go anywhere! While we were at the 2nd corner putting up the 2nd half of the balloons, Pastor Binus drove by, on his way to the church to let us in :-) This was a good sign for us, because as we climbed back into the car and pulled into the church, we were EXACTLY on time!!!
We unloaded the flowers and all of the rest of the stuff. I fluttered around trying to make sure everything was being put out. I tied the ribbons on the toasting glasses, the cake server and knife, and tried to put up the tulle in various places. I got the fishing line and the ivy to work on top of the pew bows before giving the job over to the girls. It was amazingly beautiful in the church that morning - the sun was shining through the windows at the top of the octagon shaped church and everything was glowing lavender for many hours while we worked. It gave me such an amazing feeling like heaven was shining down on us, and all of us girls used the walk through the church between our jobs because it was so pretty. We found the daisy chain for the unity candle and put that out and the vases on the front. This was a wonderful part of the morning - I was able to get so many last minute things done, and direct the girls on everything before we had tons of people out there.
Megan tried the whole morning to call Tiffany, our hair dresser and one of her best friends, and we started to get a little worried that we hadn't heard from her yet. She ended up getting there at the perfect time, and she started on Megan and Lisa and Rina since I was still busy. Every time I went in the room, the girls had more curls!!! I set to putting ribbons on our bouquets (because before they were in the water and I hadn't wanted the ribbons floating in the water. I spread some of the leftover flowers and ivy between the tables at this time, too. I was just almost done with the throw bouquet, and the guys pulled up!!! They were about an hour earlier than I had anticipated, and I wasn't done with what I needed to do! Since I didn't want Eric to see me before hand, I went running to the other room. This turned out to be more frustrating for me, because I was caged up in my classroom with out much to do. Eventually, I made the guys keep Eric in his dressing room so I could go and direct a few last things. My dad and Shelli arrived with the cakes and the food - and found at this point that Safeway had forgotten to give them the rolls for the sandwiches! Luckily, Shelli was going back to town to change before the wedding and was able to get them then. I started to sprinkle rose petals on the tables until Gabe stopped me and told me he could do that for me. He did an excellent job, too :-) I grabbed my flowers and retreated back to my room before Eric came back out.
I worked on the throw bouquet from my dressing room and sorted out some papers that needed to be done still. Gabe and Brian came into visit me for a little while. They explained to me about a bet that had been made by the guys about who would marry first. They had each voted for who they had thought would marry first, and then wrote up a contract with rules about who actually did marry first. Depending on how many votes the marrying guy had, he got a certain portion of the pot ($20 each guy). But, Eric hadn't gotten voted for at all, and so since he was getting married first, he got the whole thing! So they wanted to put it in my garter for Eric to find later. I laughed and said I'd be happy to put it on myself for them!
It wasn't long after that when Tiffany was ready for me. I changed into a Kimono that my best friend from high school Lisa had sent me with most of my wedding under garments underneath. This way, there was nothing to have to go over my head once my hair was done :-) I was a little frustrated because we hadn't figured out exactly how to do my hair beforehand, and I think I ended up putting it up myself before Tiffany started curling it. Definitely a moment that I needed to breathe more instead of stressing because it was turning out gorgeous.
Several people made their way in and out while this was going on - I know my mom has a little bit on her video camera of me while my hair was being done, and I was in true command role - people kept coming in and asking me questions, and I was really on top of the answers, but wishing I could make things happen faster out there!! My mom helped out and ironed my going away sun dress in the other room, because I hadn't gotten to do that yet. Megan's friends Nicole, Sarah, Sarah, and Desireé came in for a while before heading to the kitchen to help out. It was really nice to have them there - it made me stress so much less over the kitchen.
Pretty soon, I was done with my hair, we got my tiara pinned in, the veil on, and it was time to get into my beautiful dress. Finished putting on my under stuff and the girls helped me into the dress. Wow! Time for makeup - I carefully did it myself, and we had about 10 different colors of lavender out that the girls used as well. Thank you, Garden Botanika :-)
Annette and Caley came in and snapped some beautiful pictures of us beforehand. Caley looked SO adorable, and Annette helped her with the daisy crown. She brought me her sixpence that she had worn in her wedding - so I'd have something borrowed and a sixpence! My something old was my diamond earrings from Eric last Christmas, my something new was the dress, tiara, and veil, and the something new was to be a blue ribbon on my garter (which later I found out didn't get put on in the rush... I was sad about that). My uncle's girlfriend (now fianceé) Lisa Ann had brought each of us girls pearls from China to my cousin's wedding, and they complimented my dress beautifully.
I heard that the photographer had made it there, and not long after, he came in and took a few pics of us getting ready, and did the same for the guys in their room.
So far, I had done really good without really crying. But what really made it sink in that it was my wedding day was my little brother Matthew walking into our dressing room.... in a tux. I really lost it that moment. Because it was right then when I realized that all of my planning and stress was ending, and it was time to get married. (Look at me, I'm tearing up thinking about it!)
So my dad came in and said they were ready for me to come out for pictures. I tried to get the tears out of my eyes (and failed pretty miserably!) My dad looked so handsome, and I was so excited now. The girls made sure I had my flowers and we all headed out of the dressing room. We wanted to stage the first site that Eric had of me, and the photographer caught such a nice shot of it while Eric's parents got one from behind..
